Any way to get elevation data? What would be ideal is the ability to swap between map and contours the way you can swap between map and satellite. Not just for seeing other people's paths but for finding new ones. I'm always on the lookout for an easier ride home at the end of a long day.

Don't think I'll be able to get spaital elevation data - but some kind of altitude/time graph such as gmap-pedo has should be possible. I believe he gets his data from the USGS. Which (perhaps surprisingly) seems to have AU data available.

this was the last paragraph on a posting in another category:

on a slightly different topic - elevation... the city of bellevue (the suburb where i live) has a print map for biking which includes 'elevation arrows' - shows the direction of the uphill and the more arrows there are the steeper the hill. i'd include the link but 1-the site's being updated to include more than just bellevue so the page's down (just checked for the link) and 2- the online map did not have the arrows on it last time i was there, only the print version. :( i'm hoping they're including the elevation in the new online pages. if there's interest in seeing this i'll post once they're done renovating the site.
