    There is an alternate route up the hill after you cross the locks. Instead of going west on Commodore to 40th, go just about 20 ft west of the path from the locks & across the street to 33rd Ave W. Go south on 33rd about 1 block up a steep hill to a footbridge across the RR tracks & continue up the path to 32nd Ave W In two blocks that comes out on Government Way. After you enter the park, instead of going uphill on Government Way, there is a paved trail that starts at the visitor center that takes you up the final hill without traffic where you re-join the route.
