    The underpass under 101 at Fabian is only open during the summer (which ends in October and starts in ?). During the winter, the best alternative is to go down Louis to Charleston and then continue on Middlefield to Shoreline. The overpass over 101 at Shoreline isn't too scary. It's worth diverting from Middlefield to Louis for most of the route as Louis is much quieter through Midtown.
