This route is designed as a 'night ride' to be done on New Year's Eve. The route uses the M7 shared path, Orphan School Ck shared Path, and the shared path alongside the Parramatta-Liverpool T-way.
The Sugarloaf Ridge & Moonrise lookouts in Western Sydney Regional Park provide 'long-range' views of fireworks from the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Darling Harbour, Manly and a number of other locations. 'Shorter-range' views of fireworks around the Fairfield area can be observed and heard.
By starting the ride around 8pm, riders can be up to Sugarloaf Ridge or Moonrise (distance 12-13 km) to see the 9pm fireworks. Leaving again around 9.30 gives over 2 hours to do the rest of the loop and be back up at the lookouts for the midnight fireworks.
80% of the route is reasonably well lit, where a flashing LED front light should be adequate. However, there is a strech of approx 8km length between Saxony Rd and the T-way (incl Western Sydney Regional Park) where street lighting is non-exisitng or patchy. Good lights will be needed for this section. Also note that there are some bollards along the Orphan School Ck path which aren't easy to see at night.
The only sections of 'on-road' are a short section along Jedda Rd, and the roads within the park (which should be closed to traffic after dark). There are a number of road crossings though!
