This is a mostly very pleasant ride from Darlington Provincial Park (just east of Oshawa, Ontario), to Port Hope approximately 50km away. Unlike the shoreline west of here, it is still very rural and scenic. This route follows the "Waterfront Trail", so there are both on-road and off-road sections. I have included some suggestions for avoiding the off-road sections too.

It's only about 13km from the Oshawa GO Train station, so this actually makes a very nice weekend mini-tour from Toronto. Friday night: Take the GO train to Oshawa and ride to the park. Saturday: 100km day trip to Port Hope and back, or half that if you turn around at Bond Head. Sunday: Ride back to Toronto, or ride to Pickering GO and take the train back.

    Notes:
    * There are raccoons in the park, so don't leave any food unsecured at your campsite.
    * There are NO SERVICES or places to buy drinks etc. on the way! Make sure you bring enough water and food.

I have some photos from this ride, taken in June 2006 here: http://vic.gedris.org/pics/2006-06-24/
