My wife and I are planning to do a mtb tour over 2 weeks in September 2008. We want to leave from Amsterdam and cycle through Belgium, Luxemburg. We like to do mainly rural routes, with a minimum amount of tarred roads and traffic. We prefer hilly terain and single track routes. We may also camp or stay a few days in one area, and cycle that area from the place where we stay.

Could you possibly suggest a scenic route, with minimal traffic to take us from Amsterdam to Luxembourg? I would greatly appreciate it if you could also recommend a suitable base from where several worthwhile routes could be cycled from?

Belgium : my 38 routes on http://www.bikely.com/listpaths/by/fietslogies avoid all hills. Sorry about that. More your cup of tea will be the MTB section of Bloso on http://www.bloso.be/public/Bloso/mountainbikeroutes.asp

Wallonia (Belgium) : the RAVEL routes, following most of the time canals and abandoned railway tracks are also quite flat but I guess RandoVelo has more to offer on http://www.randovelo.org/fr/veitin.php

Luxembourg : Both sites are a must (and a true example for other countries to follow) http://www.pch.public.lu/reseau_routier/pistes_cyclables/cycle_routes/index.html and http://www.lvi.lu/velomap/velomap.pdf
