My wife and I especially enjoy the off-road experience offered by the 'rails to trails' type rides. Is there a way to integrate these routes into the Bikely site? If these routes could be 'tagged' in a way that would allow the visitor to find them readily , that would multiply the value of the site for us. Thanks.

You can already do this, although there are some limitations.

First, ensure you turn OFF the "auto follow the roads" box in the Draw controls.
Then, in the Google space, click on "Hybrid" to get a combination of satellite photo and road map.

In this mode, you can zoom down and usually locate and follow the trails, especially "rail to trail" routes which tend to be straight lines or have long smooth bends.

If you take the time to annotate the route, then others will have an easier time identifying trailheads, and ingress/egress points. Unfortunately, many (most?) do not take the time to annotate their routes on Bikely, making them of marginal use to others.
    Cheers,

Forgot to say that you can tag them as "offroad" and also put in a secondary route description to identify as a "rail trail".

I would second a request for a separate "Rail-Trail" tag in the Describe your Route section of the route creation process.
The search function in Bikely uses each whole word in a non-exclusive OR search which is very permissive. So searching on "Rail Trail" will not find Rail Trails exclusively. Instead you will end up including rides such as LINTHICUM Light-Rail Station to BWI TRAIL: 0.5 mi. one-way (w/Q-Sh.) which is not actually a rail trail.

I don't think Bikely will likely ever be a good/complete source of rail to trail locations. I would recommend you go right to the source: Rails to Trail Conservancy

I've mapped the Hilliard rail trail. Look for routes with my name: RookieRider. It took me a while to figure it out but I did map the trail.
