    Folks,

It looks like the change to make Export GPX use tracks (trkpt) has made the new Bikely GPX export files incompatible with the (unchanged) Import Route feature which still uses routes (rtept).

I used to be able to export GPX files which used routes (rtept) from Bikely and combine several route segments to make a new route that would import with all points, cues, and location descriptions intact.

When I export a route as GPX now, I get a "trkpt" file. If I import the file I just exported, there are no cues or location descriptions. If I import one of my old "rtept" files, the import still works fine.

Seems like the GPX updates were done to the Download GPX feature, without considering what this would mean to folks who still want the Import Route feature to work.

I would suggest that eliminating the option to produce the "rtept" GPX format was not well advised, rather, the "trkpt" GPX format should have been added as one of two GPX Download options (i.e. Download GPX Tracks, and Download GPX Routes).

I hope Bikely will please consider restoring the option to export GPX Routes whick are compatible with the Import Route feature. I use Bikely to edit the bike routes for a Charity ride (ADA Tour de Cure) and we have 4 routes that share alot of the same route segments. Before, using Download GPX export for the segments and a text editor, I could combine any of the segments to make a route that has the exact same points and cues as the others on the shared segments. This is an important capability that Bikely used to provide. Please restore it so we can all continue to benefit from this useful site.

    Regards,

    Bikeboombikes

I posted this under another topic. With a little "Notepading" all you wishes will come true.

The gpx download incarnation as of May 8, 2008 (it changes) is both a list of waypoints and a track.
To make a true route that is pure gpx...
    (I use Notepad)
erase the track point part but be sure to leave the </gpx> at the end
find all the wpt occurrences and replace them with rtept
begin the rtept list with a <rte> and end with a </rte>
