I purchased my dream bike over the weekend - a real all carbon beauty and to justify the cost, I want to commute from my home in the Lake Phalen area of St. Paul to the Target Ctr in downtown Minneapolis. I have a bike map, but would like others' opinions on the best, shortest and safest route to do this. Thanks!

Here's how I would ride it.
    Commute for Komjen

There are a couple of pretty good alternatives to this. If you hate the U of M Transit Way, Energy Park is a good alternative for example. You can also cut the Wheelock Hill out by using Arlington (but every good commute needs a climb :). If you need alternatives reply back here and I can give you a couple.

If it really is "a real all carbon beauty" and costs enough to "justify the cost", I hope you were not planning to lock it to the side of the Target Center. One day, it won't be there when you get off work. Never have the most expensive bike on a rack. Right at the end of my route line are some City bike lockers that you can get for $30.00 a season. If you get one, look for a guy in a white helmet with a flashy on top and say "Hi Scot", thats where I park.

    Scot,
Thanks for the input. If I actually do commute into downtown, I plan on getting a bike locker. I see there are some just behind the target ctr and since I use Lifetime for the shower, I figure this would be a good place to secure the bike. I appreciate the route suggestion and will likely try it some weekend here in the near future. Thanks again!
