I'm surprised you don't pick up Lowell Street in Arlington Heights. That gives you a nasty bit right around Burlington Mall and the 128 exchange, but it looks shorter, and the Lexington portion is quite pleasant. I'll see if I can figure the mileage difference (does Bikely let me copy your route, and then tinker with the copy? And can we cross-reference the routes if I do?)

I'm not a big fan of going past the Burlington Mall and that 128 cloverleaf. It is shorter, and I used to take that route when I began this commute. However, while the Lexington portion can be rather nice, the road deteriorates significantly in Arlington. The section around the Burlington Mall from the 128 exchange to the Sun Microsystems campus could also use better shoulders. I also disliked the lights at the Russell and East St. intersection, which is cramped on the Boston-bound side. Also not a fan of making the left fork between Lowell and Adams St when returning to Boston.

4/225 is maybe a mile longer, but the experience is generally a lot more pleasant. I'd be willing to trade an extra 5 minutes in commute time for that.
