I was wondering where Bikely, and sites like it, get their elevation data from?

I have a load of old routes with no elevation data and I don't want to have to convert them all to gpx and upload them all to get the data filled in. It would take ages and it also doesn't seem very fair on Bikely.

Anyone know where the elevation data comes from?

The elevation data comes from a free webservice hosted by the USGS. For more info, go to: http://gisdata.usgs.net/XMLWebServices/TNM_Elevation_Service.php

Go right ahead and import them, if you can be bothered. That sort of thing is what Bikely is for!

Is there a site for map elevations outside the US?
    How about new Zealand?
