Turn directions will eventually (if not now) be a "must have". For an example of how one site uses/creates them, see http://www.routeslip.com/. Would something like that be an option?

Cue sheets are a definite need.

I am a new user of Bikely as of this week. I was referred to this site by a guy in Atlanta GA. I was planning a short weekend vacation to that area so I posted a request for bike route information on an Atlanta local site. This other bike rider referred me to routes that he posted on Bikely. I painstakingly went through his routes and made my own cue sheets.

I liked Bikely so much that I went ahead and created a route for one of my favorite rides. I tried to figure out how to attach a cue sheet but I could not find a method for that. Wouldn't be possible to simply have a method for the route creator to attach a text file to the route? I am not a programmer, but I would think that this is easy to do. The route creator could attach a text file that could have directions for how to get to the start, helpful information like where food and water are available, and a cue sheet. Below is cue sheet that I want to attach to my Lexington-Midway-Versailles ride.

    Lexington-Midway-Versailles

Park in the lot near the Maintenance Barns at the corner of
    Ruffian Way and Shamrock Ln

    Mile Direction Landmark

8.6 Right Hwy 421 Leestown Rd
    8.6 Left Paynes Mill Rd
    9.3 Right Weisenberger Mill Rd
    11.9 Straight Stephens St
    12.3 City Midway
    12.3 Cross Hwy 62
    13.4 Left Spring Station Rd
    15.9 Left Woodlake Rd
16.8 Left Hwy 1681 Old Frankfort Pike
    17.4 Left Steele Rd
    19.4 Cross Hwy 60

I occasionally will type the street turns in the "Now passing through" box as I enter my route. The cue sheet is really nice in routeslip.com but I have not had good luck when trying to save a route much over 50-miles in routeslip. Bikely.com has worked for me every time!!

    Happy riding!

Oops, I ment "Now in Suburb" is where I type the turns.

New cue sheet function is great. Thanks

The cue sheets are great! One issue; the distance-from-last cue field seems to give the distance since the last route point, even if it doesn't have a comment, and so doesn't show in the cue sheet. I would expect distance-from-last to be the total distance since the last cue sheet entry.

the cue sheets are great, i especially like the ability to editorialize.

ditto chricycle's comment above, about the distance-from-last-cue not working in the way one would want it to.

    Great App!

When creating points or when finished with a route, I do not see an easy way to get to the cue sheet. I am currently exiting and going back to the home page, my routes, etc. to get to the cue sheet.

    Is there an easier way?

    Thanks for your work

Good point - I'm currently working on improving navigation around the site in a number of areas, and will ensure that this gets some attention.

Is it just me being stupid, or can i not get a cue sheet for a route I created before the cue sheet function was installed?

I looked at the current first four of your routes under your userid.

The first one had no cue sheet, but to my eye it should have built one. My recommendation is to go in and edit just one of your turn cues on your nodes slightly, then re-save your route and see if that triggers the cue sheet build.

The 2nd one had a complete cue sheet.

The 3rd and 4th ones had no notes on any of the nodes, so therefore no cue sheet would be needed. Jules has got the Cue Sheet link set up as dynamic, if there are not node notes it dosn't appear, if there are, a cue sheet link appears.

The first one is the one I was really wanting a cue sheet for. I built it before the cue sheet function was added. It's got descriptions at turns and such. I went in and added a point and i edited one of the turn cues and re-saved. Still no cue sheet?

This makes me think I'm going to have to go back and redo every route I've created in order to get cue sheets? Please say it ain't so...

    Confused,

    Amelia (bikealabama.info)

    Amelia,

I looked at your routes. Is "Two Bridges over the Tombigbee (Greene/Sumter Counties)" the one that you're not getting a cue sheet for? I am getting a cue sheet for that route. Or is it another route you're having trouble with?

I'm not getting a cue sheet at the moment for Monte Sano climb... i don't understand why i don't get one when I've entered descriptive stuff...
  7.
Why can't i see a cue sheet for that? I included labels and descriptions. How do I get it to generate a cue sheet, pretty please?

Someone else noted that you need 5 points with notes in order to trigger a cue sheet. I think you need one more on Monte Sano climb

ah, thanks... sheesh i have such a straight route up the mountain!
  9.
Thanks Scot!!! I wanted one that just had the climb, not longer routes that include the climb... so folks can be real clear about it and know where to measure bottom to top and such. It didn't NEED five notes :o) But I made some up!

    > But I made some up!

Here are some more in case someone has a short (or straight) route:

    1. START
    2. You put your right foot in...
    3. You put your right foot out...
    4. (Repeat)
    5. And you shake it all about.
    6. END

    :-)

Here's my current method for plotting out my routes:

    * Pick your starting point
    * Select draw
    * In the "Now in" box I put Start in xxxx
    * In the "Notes" box I put in something like "Start in Thompson Park at the parking
    lot by the lake".
    * Select your next point, in the "Now in" box I put in the following "R - Lakeview Dr."
    * In the "Notes" I put in "Right on Lakeview Dr".
    * Next point, if it's a turn then do D otherwise select next ...

    I've been using X - cross, ! - Notice, R - right, L - Left, BR - bear right, BL - bear left, TL - traffic light, etc. Take a look at
NJ, Monroe - Allaire State Park.
This is my first public route. While not perfect it's not bad. I can then use the cue sheet and I'll work on a Perl script to put it into an XL spread sheet. That way I can add the route here then send it into my club's library.

I've tried ncherry's directions for entering cue-points. Once I enter all my points how do I compile the cuesheet?

Look under the Show menu, your cue sheet will be there, nothing you need to do except SAVE.
