    Hi
I am planning a 1200 km bike ride and have an alternative course for day 2 out of 4 days.
I would like to keep the original course intact in case the second alternative does not work out.
I would like to copy the existing map and cue sheet, make the changes on map 2, compare the results and pick which one suits my needs the best for publishing

I wanted to do that, too. Might be a useful feature, a bit like "save as", and it would just generate a new path number?...

This is surely one of the most frequently requested improvements to the Bikely site, and unlike others (improving elevation data, for example) it would seem to be pretty easy to implement. It would be interesting to know if there is some massive technical difficulty that prevents that from happening, but in the meantime, here's what to do:

Start with the route you want to modify, and then go to the Share menu and choose Download .GPX, which should create an XML file on your system. You can then go to the Create Route menu item and choose Upload, and away you go.

You can also edit the XML file to remove points that you don't want before uploading if you're shortening a route.

I have to agree. This is a feature that is really needed, and it has to be easier than tweaking XML files. Will this also be the solution for creating reverse routes? What about for editing the cue sheets to meet the needs of different classes of riders?

I'm working on a collection of historic tour routes through Eastern Europe. The routes themselves could be put to a lot of different uses.

redfox has written a handy utility called TrackTool that you might find useful. Here's a copy of his post:

    -------
You can use this tool if you want.

I wrote it because I got fed up with manually hacking tracks to make them MapSource safe and to do a few other tricks like merging and reversing routes.

It does the job for me, but its a brand new, spare time project for me, so please read the caveats on the above page.
