I've always found ferries easy by bike - I've used P&O & Brittany Ferries going to France and Spain. You get to cycle on before all the other traffic with the motorbike riders following you. You tie your bike up with ropes that the ferry companies provide and are up out of the car deck before most people leave the queue's in the docks. Equally, you get off first. When we went to St Malo, we managed to cycle around to Dinard before the ferry finished offloading cars.
