    Hello again,

I'd like to make some suggestions for changes to the output produced by Bikely's GPX export. Bikely generates GPX 1.1 output but doesn't take full advantage of the format.

    (1) Links to external content -- GPX 1.1 allows multiple <link> elements (each containing a URL) in the <rte> element. This would be a much better place for the "permalink" than the current location as part of the route comment (since (a) this would clearly mark it as a URL, and (b) we want the route <cmt> element for something else!).

    (2) <cmt> vs <desc> -- According to the GPX standard, data in the <cmt> element is sent to the GPS, while data in the <desc> element is meant for human consumption. This suggests that when Bikely adds an interface for creating general route commentary, it should probably be part of the route <desc> element.

    (3) route categories -- GPX allows a <type> element in routes. Perhaps this could contain the tags associated with the route? Alternately, Bikely could define a custom XML namespace for enumerating the tags associated with a route.

    What do other folks think?

    Cheers,
