Bikely has a limited range of locations for routes, and some countries just have the capital city, so my route in Goteborg, Sweden's second-largest city has to be listed as being in Stockholm, 300 kilometres away. Even in Britain, which is quite well served, there are many towns that are not listed.
Google maps does have a full gazetteer, can't that be used? If not could we we request or add locations?

Yes, this is a real problem here in Europe. It results in bad or weak data in the database, which is likely never to be corrected. The longer this situation remains, the greater the quantity of inaccurate (in some cases, very inaccurate) route entries. :-(

I agree. I have been working on routes in Poland and Slovakia. Only a handful of major cities in each region are represented.

When this problem is fixed, we are going to need a way for route creators to change the locations of the routes that have provided to offer a better location.

Yep I agree as well, very limited locations making locating routes outside of the usa next to useless

Don't know too much about other countries, but for my country The Netherlands I'm wondering on what basis the choices for selectable cities are made. In my region Wageningen (Pop 35.000), Barneveld (Pop. 28.000), Veenendaal (Pop. 61.000) and Harderwijk (Pop. 40.000) are listed, while my city Ede, considered the most important in the region and counting 67.000 citizens, isn't.

I don't see the logic in that.

Currently Bikely development seems to be frozen and there's no evidence that anybody is paying attention to this discussion. Kevin Pfeiffer has started a discussion called "looking for an alternative to Bikely". Please check it and contribute if you have any relevant knowledge.

It looks to me like this is a lot of busywork if nobody produces the data for you already. It's probably a matter of loading a lot of "starting points" and their geo-coordinates into some database.

It was probably easy to do for the USA, because somebody had already generated such data, but the data was not available for Europe. Hence, the problems those of us who are focusing on other countries are having. It appears to me that for most of Europe, each provincial capital of each province is in there, and that's the level of granularity we have. Perhaps there is some way to find (even in the public domain) a big list of European cities and their coordinates.

How are the Canadian and ANZAC people here doing? Do you have enough coordinates? What about the rest of the world?

No way to enter start or end of my Argentina route (Villa la Angostura to San Martin de los Andes).
