There are some errors, mostly in spelling on the route map. First, the route's starting point, seems to start at Shaw's Hotel; it is definitely not Stanhope by the Sea, which is in Stanhope. The name is spelled Brackley, not Brakley or Brukley (Bay); Corran Ban is also mis-spelled. I am also mystified by the route mapped out at Union Road,
Point 21. There is no other way to go north except by the Union Road. The route traced out that is the west of Union Road, heading in a north-west direction to Brackley simply does not exist. There is no road or trail there whatsoever.

You would could imporve the ride if you returned via either the ferry over the lake and pick up the the road to Winster once you are the other side. Much better than riding down through Windermere and Bowness. You coudl also miss the ferry out and go via Grizedale( good cafe & bike shop), Lakeside and Newby Bridge and then any of the quiet roads over Cartmell and Lindale Fells. If you are feeling truly butch you can go up over Gummershow (turn left to Bowness at the roundabout, direction Kendal), have a cracking descent to Bowland Bridge and then through either Witherslack to Levens or pick the Lyth Valley road up again at Crossthwaite.

BEWARE! This ride cannot be done as of November 2009. The middle section of the Washington, Baltimore, and Annapolis bike trail is not completed, and there are no nearby parallel roads as a workaround. Specifically, the bridge over the Patuxent River does not exist, as well as several miles north of the river crossing. This will be a nice ride when/if the WB&A gets completed, but that is years in the future.

Me and a friend of mine did this ride over a year ago. At the time this ride really put it on me...let me tell ya! Went back to do it a second time this summer..this time it wasn't nearly as difficult...but still a tough ride! Then we went back two weeks later and did the ride backwards (well..opposite direction!) Still proved to be a challenging ride! Thanks, since then I consider myself a stronger rider. I've looked at most of your routes and have found that we travel quite a few of the same roads...I guess we have good taste!

Ride safe!
Andy
or on bikely:
redtarmac

This route caught my eye because it made it look like there was a side route pretty much all the way from Jervis Bay to Ulladulla!

Maybe things have changed recently. Maybe there IS a bridge that crosses Lake Conjola entrance. Perhaps there is some kind of bridge over Narawallee Creek as well. If not, then this route is very misleading.

This is a great route for getting used to road riding if you have only ridden rail trails before. I rode it from Seymour one day and back the next as the train was not running past Seymour.

The hills are not too steep and the roads are wide; even the freeway section has a wide strip alongside that keeps you well away from the cars. The big rig truckies are great and give you a wide berth. (The smaller the truck the more they resemble car drivers) For most of the route I encountered about one car every 5 minutes. This on Tuesday Wednesday in late October when the scenery was beautiful after a period of rain.

Almost the whole route is tree lined on both sides, but the breeze still gets through.

There is a nice cafe in Longwood where the owner's daughter is a competitive cyclist. There is a gerneral store in Anderson St in Avenel at the end nearest the route (not the one near the freeway) that has blood plum slice to die for. Otherwise you are on your own for food water and toilets. (The public toilet in Longwood is under construction and I never found the one in Avenel) There is plenty of bush along the way.

Don't miss the river trail in Seymour, particularly the part to the West in the early morning or evening...
