This is a cue sheet for the Rowville to Hawthorn Commute Bicycle Map. You can print it out for later use.

Cumulative Distance Where Notes Direction Elevation
0km 0km Rowville SSW 188° 86m
2.62km 2.62km Wellington Rd under construction here. Because of this, it's a little narrow when heading west. Alternatively, there is a bike/pedestrian path to the north of Wellington Rd, which runs from Silkwood to Stud Rds. W 248° 77m
3.18km 0.56km Traffic is almost always banked up here in the morning. Love overtaking stationary cars.. WNW 275° 62m
3.65km 0.46km If on the bike / pedestrian path, it stops here. Heading west, Wellington Rd no longer has a bike lane,so is a bit tight from time to time. It now has a bike path on the north side which is slower (but safer) than the road. WNW 279° 59m
7km 3.35km Mulgrave Start of the 'VFL park' hill. On a busy morning, the fumes from cars & trucks stuggling up the hill is not fun. WNW 279° 65m
8.28km 1.29km Usually do a hook turn here at the traffic light. The sensor in the road seems to work for bikes, so you don't need a car to help you change the lights. NNE 99m
8.49km 0.21km Wheelers Hill. NNE 100m
9.04km 0.55km Turn right at the round-a-bout. Gentle up hill run from here, but it's pretty long. Great coming home. NNE 87m
10.88km 1.84km Left here on to White's Lane. This is also sign posted as the Scotchman's creek bike trail. WNW 278° 144m
11.44km 0.56km Glen Waverley Carefull at this round about, the approach is downhill, so you can be moving quickly. NW 299° 119m
12.62km 1.18km Crossing Springvale should be done at the pedestrian crossing, but I tend to sneak accross and ride 5 or so metres on the wrong side of road (oops, did I type that aloud). WNW 272° 113m
13.38km 0.76km Through the park. Scotchman's path signs point the way. E 90° 98m
13.47km 0.08km Bike path sign points straight, but I prefer the road option, turning left. SSW 191° 94m
13.64km 0.18km Start of the steepest hill on this commute. It's not long, but I never get up this without the pulse below 165. WNW 284° 88m
13.94km 0.3km That's it, top of the hill. NW 307° 111m
14.26km 0.32km Bike path rejoins here, having gone behind the tennis courts. WNW 279° 123m
14.53km 0.27km Mount Waverley Only need to stay on Blackburn Rd for 60 or so metres, but watch for cars coming off the freeway and merging with you. N 122m
14.96km 0.43km Scotchman's creek bike path sign tells me to turn right here. NNE 13° 121m
15.06km 0.1km You can turn left here, and use the bike path, but I prefer the road here. NNE 122m
15.12km 0.05km Turn left onto a nice little downhill section, but there's no point going nuts because of the corner at the end. WNW 281° 120m
15.88km 0.76km Another short downhill, which is annoying because of the speed humps. WNW 281° 98m
16.26km 0.38km Turn right at Forster Rd, looking for the bike path signs. NNW 346° 82m
16.32km 0.06km Turn on to the bike path here. On cold mornings, it feels like the temperature drops 5 degrees. SW 213° 80m
17.44km 1.12km Tunnel under the freeway. Quite long. Lighting is OK. WSW 243° 75m
17.87km 0.42km Can follow the path to the left, but I take the right path so that I hit the road. NW 293° 69m
18.63km 0.77km Chadstone Crossing Huntingdale can take some time if its busy. Just be patient. NW 314° 74m
20.09km 1.45km Off the road, back onto the bike/pedestrian paths. NW 301° 52m
20.87km 0.78km Overpass over Warrigal Rd. NW 298° 47m
21.93km 1.07km Malvern East Pedestrian / bike crossing across Waverley Rd. NW 295° 41m
22.96km 1.02km Up the overpass to cross the South Eastern Arterial Car Park. Be careful of pedestrians, which come out in force just after a train has unloaded. NE 26° 34m
23.07km 0.11km Ashburton Running down hill here you need to be a little carefull of pedestrians ENE 58° 29m
23.2km 0.13km Around through the golf course. NNW 324° 30m
23.26km 0.06km Turning right will take you to the Anniversary trail (assuming the bridge is fixed), so don't take that one. NW 297° 30m
23.44km 0.18km Path is a little bumpy here. NNW 327° 29m
23.51km 0.07km First of a few bridges we have to cross on this path. Not good for average speeds. NNE 30m
23.7km 0.2km Cross Winton Rd. Then bridge number 2. NNW 323° 31m
23.94km 0.23km After rain there is always a puddle here covering the whole path. NW 314° 28m
24.36km 0.42km Glen Iris Pedestrian crossing at Dunlop St. NW 302° 28m
24.75km 0.39km bridge 3 NNW 345° 25m
24.87km 0.11km Bridge 4 NNW 334° 23m
25.32km 0.45km Under High St NW 309° 27m
25.63km 0.31km Short stint on a side street, before crossing another bridge. NNW 360° 20m
25.98km 0.35km Last bridge to cross. NW 306° 19m
26.32km 0.34km Under Great Valley Rd. NW 297° 23m
26.72km 0.4km Under Burke Rd NW 308° 21m
27.6km 0.88km Under Tooronga Rd. NW 314° 17m
28.09km 0.49km Hawthorn Under Toorak Rd / Burwood Hwy. NNW 358° 11m
29.4km 1.31km If you're heading to the city, turn left at Glenferrie Rd, and go under to join the suspended path under the freeway. I on the other hand, turn right up Glenferrie Rd. Watch the gutter, its cobblestone, and very bumpy. NNE 10m
29.79km 0.39km I'm usually here between 8 & 8:30. Going up this hill, it's 4WD a plenty dropping off the chilun' at Scotch college. NNE 32m
30.3km 0.51km Even though its quite busy here in the morning, it's quite safe as the parked cars give you your own bike lane. Just stay alert for opening doors. NNE 48m
31km 0.7km Turning on to Burwood Rd. Burwod Rd is usally quite busy in the mornings. Because of this the traffic is quite slow. This section to Power St, I'm usually faster than the motorists. WNW 279° 34m
31.52km 0.52km One hour and a quarter later, at work where I can rest in preparation for the trip home in the evening. I need to get fitter, so I can do this commute more than two days per week. This map must cut a few corners, or my speedo is not accurate. According to the computer, its 32.48km. WNW 279° 31m
