This is a cue sheet for the Pembrokeshire Coast MTB Route Newport Bay Section Bicycle Map. You can print it out for later use.

Cumulative Distance Where Notes Direction Elevation
0km 0km Pen-y-Bryn For me this route is lift assisted. I got a lift to the start point and RV'd with them for a lift back from Dinas Cross. The start point ties in with start point of the Cardigan section of my Pembrokeshire Coast MTB Route. However, the following initial uphill road section feels a little pointless. Nevertheless, with the entrance to the RUPP to your right start the climb up the hill. E 90° 27m
2.05km 2.05km Monington At the crossroads with the main A487 go straight over (take care of traffic). NW 314° 153m
2.82km 0.78km On the map the farm track to the left looks like a handy shortcut, but don't bother, I believe it is strictly private. NNW 342° 171m
3.29km 0.46km Turn left at the crossroads and look out for a bridleway on your right as the road goes downhill. WSW 236° 181m
4.65km 1.36km Turn sharp right into a gateway onto a bridleway running back up the hill. Start of Off-Road Section 1. Nearly 3 miles to the first Off-Road Section ... maybe I'll look at changing that! NE 30° 149m
5.18km 0.53km Straght-on at the T-junction. NNW 332° 157m
5.52km 0.34km Can't remember the exact route, but it is well signed. NNW 337° 145m
5.83km 0.31km Keep right to stay on bridleway. WNW 289° 149m
5.97km 0.14km Bear right through the gate in front of the stables into a paddock. Aim to the opposite corner of the paddock. NW 307° 144m
6.03km 0.06km Leave the paddock via a gate to the right of the stable block. W 249° 143m
6.07km 0.04km Take the next right onto a grassy track by a tall stone wall. NNW 321° 142m
6.72km 0.65km Moylgrove Go Straight-on at the T-junction. I think it's a sealed surface from here. End of Off-Road Section 1. NW 309° 169m
6.87km 0.15km Go straight-on onto the main road. Then follow the sharp bend round to the left. You're looking for the next farm road bearing off to the right. NNW 315° 166m
7.66km 0.78km Bear right onto a bridleway along a farm access track. Start of Off-Road Section 2. This is a good fast track with a downhill bias. NW 303° 135m
7.85km 0.2km Go straight through the farmyard and out the other side. NNW 356° 126m
8.33km 0.48km Bear right, don't go into the farmyard. NW 294° 110m
8.71km 0.38km Turn left in the farmyard. It barely looks like it but this is the public road. End of Off-Road Section 2. Follow the road till it ends at a private entrance to a house with a bridleway alongside. WSW 230° 111m
9.53km 0.82km Bear left onto bridleway which runs alongside private access road to house. Start of Off-Road Section 3. This is a very fast grassy downhill into Ceibwr Bay. Watch out for the gate around a corner. Watch out for ramblers. Take care at the bottom as you enter the darkness of the trees the ground gets boggy and it could be easy to not notice the gate!! SW 211° 67m
9.77km 0.24km Watch out for the gate around this corner. S 176° 49m
10.18km 0.41km Turn right through gateway. WNW 284° 24m
10.2km 0.02km Exit residential property down driveway to the right of the house. End of Off-Road Section 3. Unfortunatly there now follows a massive 7 mile road section (not counting the tiny Off-Road Section 4). Sorry, there is nothing we can legally use in between!! W 269° 24m
10.4km 0.2km Bear left up the hill to the road. NW 313° 21m
10.47km 0.07km Merge right onto the road. I'm afraid you now have a long road section with a monster climb out of Ceibwr followed by a long sustained more gentle climb. The only saving grace is it eventually heads back downhill into Newport. NNW 328° 15m
12.2km 1.73km Straight-on at the crossroads. SSE 147° 103m
12.42km 0.22km Turn right at the T-junction. The road continues to climb then eventually descends. Look for a gentle left turn sign-posted Newport in just over 3 miles. WSW 247° 113m
14.56km 2.14km Nevern This is approximately the peak of this road section at approx 186m. WSW 236° 184m
17.64km 3.08km Newport Bear left towards Newport (signposted). By now you've seen a view opening up ahead of you of Carningli Common and the Preseli Mountains beyond it. We're going up the shoulder of the hill to the right of the foremost significant peak. Looks impressive! S 162° 104m
20.16km 2.52km Cross the bridge and follow the road up the hill into the town. SW 216° 8m
20.73km 0.57km Turn right onto the main A487 at the T-junction. Keep an eye out for the second left into Market St. W 267° 27m
20.96km 0.23km Turn left up Market St. SSW 181° 31m
21.04km 0.09km Go straight-on over the slightly staggered crossroads into Castle St. SSW 183° 38m
21.1km 0.06km The road peters out into a gravel singletrack. Start of the very short Off-Road Section 4. SSW 195° 47m
21.13km 0.03km Dismount to climb up some steep narrow steps onto the road and turn right. End of Off-Road Section 4. W 258° 47m
21.24km 0.11km Turn left up the the hill at the T-junction. Look out for a bridleway a short distance after a cattle grid. SSW 189° 60m
21.56km 0.33km Cattle grid. SW 225° 91m
21.61km 0.04km Bear right off the road onto a gravel track through the trees. The RUPP is sign-posted as a bridleway. Start of Off-Road Section 5. WNW 274° 91m
21.62km 0.02km Carningli Common Bear left. Signposted bridleway but not very clearly. SW 225° 91m
21.92km 0.3km Bear left away from the house. WSW 239° 123m
22km 0.09km I seem to remember being tempted by the directions to take off through a gateway into a field. Don't stay on the main track. W 258° 141m
22.52km 0.51km The Common opens up here and the track becomes a little less constraining. Bear Right onto the grassier track. W 266° 137m
22.58km 0.07km Follow the grassy track down between the fields. WNW 271° 133m
22.7km 0.12km Through the gateway go straight-on away from the house to your right. End of Off-Road Section 5. WNW 274° 127m
22.77km 0.07km Turn left at the T-junction. S 168° 125m
23.16km 0.38km Turn left onto a gravel track bridleway. Start of Off-Road Section 6. SSE 138° 138m
23.32km 0.17km Tun left at the T-junction in the bridleway. You now head downhill - take care of pedestrians. NNE 11° 149m
23.38km 0.06km Straight-on between the houses/farm buldings. NNW 355° 155m
23.54km 0.16km Once you can see the road double back to the right and pick up the bridleway up the other side of the property you just passed. SSE 136° 137m
23.76km 0.22km End of Off-Road Section 6. Turn right onto the road. Look out for the bridleway to the right a little way after the bridge on the right hand corner in the road. SSW 192° 157m
24.5km 0.74km I didn't find this one. Turn right onto a bridleway. Start of Off-Road Section 7. I think it runs down the side of the fields in the right. NNW 342° 221m
24.71km 0.21km As the field on the right ends you need to keep the fields to the left in sight. NNW 335° 187m
25.04km 0.33km Turn left onto the road. End of Off-Road Section 7. Look out for the bridleway on the left heading back up the hill. W 253° 137m
25.62km 0.58km Turn sharp left onto bridleway heading back up the hill. Skirt the fields on the right. Start of Off-Road Section 8. SE 120° 183m
25.76km 0.14km If the reference field boundaries disappear at this point aim for the corner in the drystone wall of the field ahead. SE 114° 207m
25.9km 0.14km As you round the apex of the corner of the stone walling the bridleway's route to the road is clear. ESE 99° 230m
26.03km 0.13km End of Off-Road Section 8. Turn right onto the road and climb the hill. As the road levels the next Off-Road Section is on the right. W 248° 233m
26.88km 0.85km As the road levels look out for a gap in the raised stone banks. Start of Off-Road Section 9. This RUPP descends all the way back down to the A487. It's fast, rocky and totally brilliant. This is the main reason why I've reversed this route. E 90° 290m
26.94km 0.06km Take the right hand track. There is a waymark post. WNW 291° 289m
27.88km 0.93km The track leads you to a corner of two drystone walls and a gateway. Through this gate and followthe track between the fields. NNW 343° 225m
27.98km 0.11km Cross the farm track and skirt the field on the right. NNW 341° 211m
28.65km 0.66km Dinas Cross Bear right away from the farm. NNW 338° 141m

29.79km 0.45km Turn left onto the main A487. This is a busy fast A-road - take care of traffic. Look out for a right turn sign-posted Cwm-yr-Eglwys. W 253° 83m
30.74km 0.94km Turn right down the road sign-posted Cwm-yr-Eglwys. Look out for a bridleway off to the left at a dog leg in the road. NNE 15° 82m
31.4km 0.67km Turn left into bridleway. Start of Off-Road Section 10. W 265° 70m
32.02km 0.62km End of Off-Road Section 10. WNW 272° 72m
32.08km 0.06km Turn right into the village of Bryn-Henllan. NNW 345° 74m
32.12km 0.04km This is the end-point. I rode up to the A487 where it was easy to RV with someone for a lift. NNW 345° 74m
