This is a cue sheet for the Menlo Park to Mountain View Caltrain via shore trails in East Palo and Palo Alto NO NASTY WILLOW ROAD CROSSING! Bicycle Map. You can print it out for later use.

Cumulative Distance Where Notes Direction Elevation
0.3km 0.3km There's a short sidepath from Sun on the north side of the Expressway. Hit the pedestrian crossing button at the light to cross Bayfront to get to University Avenue. SE 128° 0m
2.78km 2.48km East Palo Alto, CA You have two options: * Turn right on Pulgas, then left on O'Connor to get to the bike path. If you're on a skinny tire road bike, this is probably the better option. * The option marked here takes you on informal "social" trails that are dirt tracks for a short distance. This is the path marked here. ENE 66° 2m
3.3km 0.52km East Palo Alto There's a gate closing the road that you need to squeeze through. It's closed to motor vehicle traffic but there's an opening wide enough for pedestrians and cyclists. You're turning onto a fairly bumpy dirt path here, so have tires suitable for the trail. SSW 202° 1m
4.03km 0.73km East Palo Alto A nicely paved bike path starts about here. S 167° -2m
4.89km 0.86km East Palo Alto There's a big bike bridge here to take you over San Francisquito Creek to Palo Alto. ESE 109° 1m
4.95km 0.06km Palo Alto Continue south along Palo Alto Golf Course S 167° 1m
5.82km 0.88km Palo Alto You'll ride in a parking lot to get to Geng Road. SE 135° 0m
6.23km 0.41km During evenking commute times, Embarcadero Road is always backed up at this intersection. You need to make a left turn onto Bayshore from a left turn lane, so you may need to split the lane to get through the congested traffic. SW 222° 3m
6.85km 0.62km Palo Alto Bayshore Road (the frontage road along 101) has a nice bike lane and a decent sidepath. The problem with the sidepath is multiple driveways across it, and cyclists must yield to vehicles in those driveways. I just ride in the bike lane -- much safer and enjoyable to ride in. S 164° 2m
7.59km 0.74km Wave the nice people stuck in traffic on 101. SSE 139° 0m
9.33km 1.74km The traffic signal to get you across San Antonio Road detects bikes, but you must move left into the straight-through lane to activate the signal. It triggers fast so prepare to move quickly! ESE 103° 2m
9.72km 0.39km It's easy to miss this left turn onto Garcia. E 88° 2m
10.95km 1.23km Mountain View You're in Google Territory now. SE 129° 3m
14.43km 3.48km Take Central Expressway Exit. The signal actuator at the bottom of the hill detects bikes. WSW 230° 18m
15.39km 0.96km Mountain View Caltrain Station Mountain View Caltrain Station at Castro Street and Evelyn Avenue. E 85° 21m
