This is a cue sheet for the Belmont-Burlington commute, over the hill Bicycle Map. You can print it out for later use.

Cumulative Distance Where Notes Direction Elevation
0km 0km Belmont ENE 54° 19.9m
0.91km 0.91km DANGER: Oncoming traffic from downhill has a stop sign, but does not expect you to veer left towards the bridge, and will pull into your path. NW 304° 19m
0.96km 0.05km Cross the closed (to autos) bridge over the RR tracks. NW 308° 16m
1km 0.04km Pleasant Street, which is anything but. NE 34° 20m
1.77km 0.77km Begin big hill NNW 337° 15m
3.19km 1.43km Arlington NNW 352° 81m
4.7km 1.5km Approach this intersection with some care; it was apparently designed by a cow, and then someone added nose-in (and butt-out) parking. NE 25° 52m
4.81km 0.12km Arlington Heights. Note that if the light is red and there are peds, they will get their all-ways walk before the green. So if you are in a hurry, and there are peds, roll down to the crosswalk and be a ped. The Minuteman bike path (shown as RR tracks) can be reached by cutting through the Gold's Gym parking lot ahead and on your right. To the left (west) on Mass Ave, are Quadcycles, Lakota Bakery, and a vacuum cleaner shop. Across from Gold's gym (across Mass Ave), there's a more construction-oriented hardware store. To the right (east) on Mass Ave, you'll find Penzey's spices, and a little further along is a less construction-oriented hardware store. NE 25° 46m
5.03km 0.21km The hard left turn is about 100 yards longer than Westminster, but a lot flatter. In theory you have right-of-way in this intersection, but don't believe it. WNW 279° 51m
5.23km 0.2km Alternate path to Minuteman bike path, go to end of Nourse, and down the slope on the RHS. NW 294° 53m
6.01km 0.78km Lexington NNW 335° 58m
8.11km 2.11km Hardware store at this corner. NNW 331° 62m
10.12km 2.01km Storm grate is now fixed, along with the other three on this stretch of road. NNW 345° 63m
10.39km 0.26km NOW FIXED: wrongly aligned slotted storm grate just north of Granger Pond Way, BOTH SIDES NNW 344° 58m
10.62km 0.23km This little section is my least favorite part of the whole route; it is two-lane, narrowing, uphill, no shoulder (a guard rail protecting pine trees and poison ivy) and the curve is somewhat blind. Traffic, naturally, takes none of this into account. NNW 324° 53m
10.72km 0.1km On the return, this section stinks because two lanes of cars leaving the intersection must merge into one, and it is uphill. NNW 330° 53m
11.03km 0.31km Trader Joe's, Petco, on your right. NNW 337° 49m
11.57km 0.54km Burlington It's best to ride this on the RHS of the second lane or LHS of the first, so that you do not mix it up with cars heading for 128 at the last moment. NNW 333° 54m
12.35km 0.78km Approach this intersection on the 1-2 lane boundary, because lane 1 is right-turn-only onto Lexington St. NNW 332° 44m
12.47km 0.12km Dispersed mall on RHS includes Eastern Mountain Sports, Staples, Newbury Comics NNW 333° 39m
14.65km 2.18km Sun Burlington, Building 2 WNW 286° 52m
